Objective To observe the curative effect of hemifacial spasm with Acupuncture of the six-mind calming acupoints plus Si-guan points. Methods Randomly group 88 patients of hemifacial spasm into treatment group with 44 patients and control group with 44 patients by the random digital table method. The treatment group was given acupuncture of the six-mind calming acupoints plus Si-guan points.Based on this treatment, acupoints were then selected according to local spasmodic symptom. The control group was treated with acupuncture on the ailing side of the patients’ face(mainly on the acupoints of Cuanzhu(BL2),Taiyang(EX-HN4),Quanliao(SI 18),Yifeng(SJ17),Hegu(LI4)).The two groups were treated every other day, three times a week and 10 times for one course. The data were collected and analyzed after the end of one treatment course. Before and after the treatment of hemifacial spasm,it uses ① Penn grading criteria to assess the frequency of seizures;② Cohen Albert grade improved assessment scale to evaluate the spasm;③the symptom checklist(SCL-90)classification method to evaluate the psychological status.④the total efficacy rate and SCL-90 score reduction rate as the assessment to evaluate the overall effectiveness. It also records adverse events observed if any.All data are processed and analyzed with SPSS 17.0 statistical software package. Results 81 cases were actually completed, including 41 cases in the treatment group and 40 cases in the control group.① the Penn index level was significantly lower after treatment in both groups(p<0.001).The curative effect is better in treatment group and the difference is statistically significant(p<0.05).②the Cohen Albert index was significantly lower after treatment in both groups(p<0.001).The curative effect is better in treatment group and the difference is statistically significant(p<0.05).③The total effective rate on treatment group is 90.24%and that of control group is 75.00%.The curative effect is better in treatment group and the difference is statistically significant(p<0.05).④The SCL-90 score reduction rate on treatment group is 95.12%and that of control group is 62.5%.The curative effect is better in treatment group and the difference is statistically significant(p<0.05).There were no adverse events in the two groups during the course period. Conclusion 1.Six-mind calming acupoints together with Si-guan points could effectively relieve the symptoms of HFS parents’ facial spasm in terms of spasm frequency and intensity. The efficacy is better than regular acupuncture treatment.2.Six-mind calming acupoints together with Si-guan points could improve the metal status of HFS parents.
