Objective:This study is aimed to clarify the clinical and histological parameters, and survival difference between right-(RCC)and left-sided colon cancer(LCC).Methods:We retrospectively analyzed the medical records from January 2010 to June 2012 in Qingdao Municipal Hospital.Patients with the exception of transverse colon cancer, overlapping position, unknown location, recurrent cancer, multiple primary cancers, and other malignant tumors, preoperative chemotherapy, local excision, incomplete clinical data and missed follow up were excluded. Finally,a total of 285 patients with radical resection of the primary tumor.122 cases of carcinoma in splenic flexure, decending colon and sigmoid carcinoma in the RCC group, and 165 cases of carcinoma in ecum, ascending colon and hepatic flexure in the LCC group, then compare the clinicopathological features and prognosis of the two groups of patients. Results:There was no significant difference in tumor type, tumor invasion depth, lymph node metastasis and CEA between the two groups(P> 0.05).The proportion of elderly patients aged ?70 years was higher in RCC patients [ 59.0%(72/122)vs.42.3%(69/163),P =0.05)].The proportion of women with RCC was higher in patients with LCC compared with those with LCC [ 59.0%(72/122)vs.39.9%(65/163),P = 0.01)].In addition, the poorly differentiated tumors in RCC patients were distantly metastasized, and the tumor diameter was>5.0cm.The patients with TNM stage II and IV,CA19-9> 37 k U / L had a higher proportion(P?0.05).The 5-year survival rates of patients with LCC and RCC were 66.2% and 49.1%,respectively,with statistical significance(P = 0.002).Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that tumor location was not an independent prognostic factor influencing overall survival in patients with RCC and LCC(P = 0.094).Conclusion:The clinical and pathological features of LCC and RCC are different, and the prognosis of RCC is worse.
