ObjectiveTo investigate the Clinical Efficacy of Yangyin Qingfei Decoction for Xerophthalmia with Lung-yin Deficiency Syndrome.MethodsOne hundred and eighty patients(360 eyes)with dry eye were selected randomly for the study.According to the random number table grouping method,the patients were divided into two group(the treatment group and control group).Both of the groups have 90 patients.As for the treatment group,patients were treated by using the yangyinqingfei decoction.(The decoction was prepared by using 6 g of rehmannia,9 g of Radix Ophiopogonis,3 g of raw licorice,9 g of radix scrophulariae,5 g of cored fritillaria,5 g of the root bark of the peony tree,3 g of mint and 5 g of fired radix paeoniae alba).The decoction was taken orally twice a day in the morning and night,respectively.In addition,the external application of the medicine was performed once a day for 20 minutes.One course of treatment takes 4 weeks.The decoction and traditional Chinese medicine for external application were supplied by the pharmacy of Xiamen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.At the same time,those patients in treatment group used the sodium hyaluronate eye drops by instilling it into two eyes thrice daily,one drop for every time.The eye drops are produced by Qilu Pharmaceutical Co,Ltd.One course of treatment takes 4 weeks.As for the control group,only the eye drops were applied to the patients.The use of eye drops in the control group was the same to that of treatment group.With reference to the new medicine clinical research guiding principles of Chinese medicine[1]about TCM symptoms and signs scores,the patients for two groups were evaluated before treatment and after one course of treatment,respectively.A comprehensive analyzer of german keratograph was used for the evaluations,including ocular-surface evaluation-rupture time break-up time of tear film(BUT),the height of tear meniscus(TMH)as well as the envy analysis(R-scan).All the data obtained were statistically analyzed by using Statistical software SPSS 20.0.Results1.This study contains 180 patients(360 eyes).It was observed that 6 cases were shed.Based on this result,the shedding ratio is calculated as 3.33%.2.For the other 174 cases(348 eyes),the as-collected proportion of men and women,ages,testing data,TCM symptoms and signs scores were statistical analyzed.There was no statistical difference in the data(P>0.05).The results indicated that the analyses for the 174 cases are comparative(See Table 2-1 and Table 2-2).3.According to the evaluation of TCM symptoms and signs scores for treatment group,it was found that 24 cases were excellence and 49 cases were utility,while 14 cases were nullity.The total efficiency was then calculated as 83.9%.In comparison,the control group showed that 12 cases were excellence and 35 cases were utility,while 40 cases were nullity.The total efficiency was then calculated as 54%.Based on the statistical analysis,the two groups exhibit significant difference(P<0.05).The treatment group has better curative effect than that of control group(See Table 2-2).4.The comparison of curative effects for BUT?TMH?R-scan treatments were expressed by median(quartile)on the lower quartile-M(P25-P75)Interquartile range(see table 2-2):BUT:After one course of treatment,6.12 s(4.57-7.16 s)and 5.47 s(4.07-6.65 s)were observed for treatment group and control group,respectively.The comparative difference between the two groups is statistically meaningful(P<0.05).the curative effect of treatment group is better than that of the control group.(See Appendix C,Figures 2,3,4 and 5).TMH:After one course of treatment,0.17(0.12-0.21)mm for treatment group and 0.16(0.12-0.19)mm for control group were obtained,the curative effect of treatment group is better than that of the control group.(See Appendix C,Figures 6,7,8 and 9).R-scan:After one course of treatment,0.8(0.7-1.0)for treatment group and 1.0(0.8-1.2)for control group were obtained,the curative effect of treatment group is more excellent than that of the control group.(See Appendix C,Figures 6,7,8 and 9).5.During the therapy treatment,no significant adverse drug reaction was observed for patients in both two groups.ConclusionsOral and external applications of yangyinqingfei decoction is curative for the Xerophthalmia with Lung-yin Deficiency Syndrome type.As compared to the use of sodium hyaluronate eye drops.The combined utilization of yangyinqingfei decoction and the sodium hyaluronate eye drops has more efficient curative effect on the Xerophthalmia with Lung-yin Deficiency Syndrome type.
