Objective:The present study was designed to explore the association of angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)gene insertion/deletion(I/D)polymorphism with left ventricular hypertrophy among Han and Uighur hypertension-OSAHS patients in China.Method:A total of 162 Han and 72 Uygur patients with diagnosed bypertension-OSAHS were recruited in this study.24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and echocardiography were also performed.Left ventricular mass index(LVMI)was calculated according to the method of Devereux and Reichek.Thery were divided into two cohorts according to nationality, after then each cohort was divided into LVH group and NLVH group on the base of LV mass index. The I/D polymorphism of the ACE gene was determined using the PCR method.Results:(1)For Uighur hypertension-OSAHS patients, the distribution of D allele and the DD genotype showed a significant difference between LVH and NLVH(for allele:P = 0.03 and for genotype:P = 0.03).The difference of DD genotype remained statistically significant after multivariate adjustment(OR = 4.61,P = 0.04).In addition, for the Han hypertension-OSAHS patients,we observed that genotypes, allele frequency of the ACE gene showed no significant difference between LVH patients and NLVH patients(for allele:P = 0.68 and for genotype:P = 0.78).Further,the difference did not remain statistically significant after multivariate adjustment(OR = 1.41,P =0.60).Logistic regression analysis showed that moderate-severe OS AHS was the independent risk factor for LVH in hypertension-OSAHS patients. Conclusion:The results of this study indicate that D allele and the DD genotype of the ACE gene were a possible risk genetic marker for LVH in Uighur hypertension-OSAHS patients in China.Moderate-severe OSAHS was the independent risk factor for LVH in hypertension-OSAHS patients.
