Effect Of Treatment With Subcutaneous Specific Immunotherapy

Purpose:To investigate the efficacy of subcutaneous house dust mite specific immunotherapy on persistent allergic rhinitis.Methods:62 patients with allergic rhinitis to house dust mite were allocated to receive allergen specific subcutaneous immunotherapy or pharmacotherapy.Prospective analysis was studied in 32 cases who received subcutaneous house dust mite specific immunotherapy(active treatment group,n=32).Retrospective analysis was studied in 30 cases of allergic rhinitis who received pharmacotherapy(Control group,n=30).Symptom sore,medication score and quality of life score were compared in two groups before and after 1-year treatment.Results:There was a significant improvement in the nasal symptoms and quality of life in active treatment group after treatment(p<0.05).The patients in the control group had a significant improvement in airflow obstruction symptom and several aspects of the quality of life score(p<0.05).There was no difference of the other nasal symptoms and the quality of life score in control group(p>0.05).There was a significant difference(p<0.05)in airflow obstruction symptom between the two groups at one year after treatment.Both groups had a significant lower medicine scores after the treatment.Conclusions:Subcutaneous specific immunotherapy is more effective for symptom relief,reducing more use of medicine,improving the quality of life compared with pharmacotherapy.
