| Objective: To investigate the prevalence of diabetes in residents of two counties and cities in the northern part of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for understanding the prevalence of diabetes mellitus,and to provide theoretical guidance for the prevention and treatment of diabetes by the local government and the health department.Methods:Stratified multi-stage random sampling method.From September 2008 to December 2008,questionnaires,fasting blood glucose and blood glucose of OGTT-2h were collected from residents in Fuhai,Hefeng and Fukang,Xinjiang,and the prevalence of abnormal glucose metabolism was analyzed by descriptive statistics Situation and risk factors,with P<0.05 considered statistically significant.Results: The prevalence of IFG was 6.3%,IGT was15.7%,pre-diabetes was 22.0% and DM was 8.4%.Among them,male and female had no statistical difference.The prevalence of IFG was 5.1%,5.2%,8.3% and 7.6% in the age group of 35-44,45-54,55-64 and over 65 years respectively;IGT was 9.4%,15.2%,21.1% and 22.7 %,Pre-diabetes were 14.5%,20.4%,29.4%,30.3%,DM were 3.7%,8.4%,10.9%,14.7% respectively.The prevalences of IFG in Han,Kazak and Mongolians were respectively 5.7%,6.5% and 7.8%,with IGT of 18.5%,4.8% and 13.9%,and pre-diabetes of 24.2%,11.3% and 21.7%,respectively 9.8%,4.7%,7.2%.Compared with Han nationality,Kazak and Mongolian are the protective factors of abnormal glucose metabolism.Elderly,abdominal obesity is a risk factor for the occurrence of abnormal glucose metabolism.Conclusion: The prevalence of abnormal glucose metabolism in Xinjiang is still not optimistic.It is also the focus of prevention and control of diabetes in abdominal obesity,especially in Han population with high risk of abdominal obesity. |
