An Analysis On The Bluest Eye From The Aspect Of Ethical Literary Criticism

Toni Morrison is the first African American woman writer who won the Nobel Prize,and her works aroused a lot of attention all over the world.The Bluest Eye is her first novel and the one which made her famous.This novel pays close attention to the thorny plight and tragic fate of the black people under the great shock by the white culture.The importance of The Bluest Eye can never be ignored during the research on Toni Morrison,but there are not enough researches on it domestic or abroad,and there is not a definite way for the black people to move away from the plight,either.This paper adopts the theory of Ethical Literary Criticism to create a new road of doing researches on Morrison.This paper consists of six main parts.Firstly,there is the introduction.Here is the introduction about Toni Morrison and her work The Bluest Eye which we will make a detailed research in this paper.Then there is the literary review about the author and The Bluest Eye.In the very last part,it illustrates the thesis statement of this paper.Chapter One is an explicit introduction of the main theory of this paper---Ethical Literary Criticism.It holds more specific discussion of the two branches of Ethical Literary Criticism,family ethics and racial ethics.Chapter Two is a research on the family ethics in The Bluest Eye.By the comparison of the normal principles of family ethics,it reveals the distortedness of ethics and the lost of love in the Breedloves.Chapter Three is an inquiry of racial ethics.According to the history of racial discrimination,this chapter unmasks the fake freedom of the black people and shows its deep influence.Especially inspects from two aspects:the perplexity of the black children and the confusion of the black grown-ups on the racial ethics.Chapter Four is the sublimation of this paper.It finds causes from the white people,the black people and their community.This chapter tries to find a way for the black ones to identify themselves correctly and get real freedom by Ethical Literary Criticism.Chapter Five is the conclusion.It concludes the theme and major opinions in this paper.The black people have to build up the correct morals,family ethics and racial ethics to get the final freedom.At last,they could identify them correctly and move away from the plight.
