With the fast development of information technology, there is a massive growing in the number of digital products. Interactive Products or Systems have become a digital medium that human beings must interact with during daily life. The requirements on interaction experience go beyond the usability to aesthetic such as pleasure and satisfaction. Meanwhile, as the development of multimedia technology,the interact object and context is becoming more and more complex, where interaction is transforming from static two-dimensional interface into three-dimensional spatial interface. The complex design object and research background indicate that there is no enough support to design the behavior, flow, interaction, model, service and content of interaction. There is a lack of theories of aesthetic interaction in the complex context of design. Besides, researches in the field of Human Computer Interaction have been focusing on the topic of usability and utility. Usable theories are focusing on the function and task. However, as the expectation of interaction product is no longer just on the function part such as task, function and service, it is extended to the expectation on emotion and value. The quality of interaction experience determines the engagement of users and therefore determines the business value of the interactive product or system, which is a key factor for the product competition in the market. Therefore, with the complex design demand, changing design object and design context, interaction designer is facing a problem on how to design an interaction experience with aesthetic experience. The purpose of this paper is to understand aesthetic features of interaction experience and provide useful design guidance for interaction design.The research process including four parts, including theory research, experiment,theory construction and design practice:Based on the Pragmatic Aesthetic theory from Dewey and related theories of Aesthetic Interaction, our research is target on the aesthetic features of interaction experience. With the theory of interaction experience, a theory framework of interaction experience is built. Then, based on the theory research, we support the research of this paper based on several points of Pragmatic Aesthetic Theory and Somaesthetics.Then, we adopted the innovative research method of Aesthetic Interaction andconducted two experiments to get the aesthetic features of interaction experience.With the theory framework of interaction experience and aesthetic features of interaction experience, we built the theory framework of aesthetic features on interaction experience, which contains two part – aesthetic features of overall experience and aesthetic features of single experience.After that, to apply the theory, we built aesthetic experience design strategy based on the theory framework of aesthetic features on interaction experience, which indicate the design process is going from overall aesthetic experience to single aesthetic experience and finally coming to interaction elements. This design strategy offers a valuable guidance for interaction design on aesthetic experience.At the last part of thesis, two interaction design cases are introduced. They are designed under the guidance of the aesthetic experience design strategy. The design case suggested the value of the aesthetic experience design strategy.The innovation of this paper is building the relationship between interaction experience and aesthetic features based on the theories and experiments. It offers a framework of aesthetic features on interaction experience, based on which a useful and valuable design strategy on aesthetic experience is built as design guidance for interaction designers. Besides, this research also offers a solution on the method of interaction design research. In the aspect of theory, the value of this research is to understand the mechanism of production and the essential elements of psychology and context. Meanwhile, it gives an idea of design guidance on design practice. In the aspect of practice, the value of research is to give support on the design of both digital and physical content of design.
