Vogue, as the leader in fashion magazine, has earned the respect of readers and professionals with its sharp angle of view and professional editorship. Meanwhile, columns in Vogue enjoy a significant pertinency as the heart of the whole magazine. So,4 columns of about ten thousand words selected from 14 translated columns are analyzed as a research case for a translation process description and to summarize the difficulties the author came across and the correspondent methods to them.In the translation process, the author firstly read the original text and tried to get a thorough comprehension of the core idea; then based on a brief analysis of the textual styles, the author had a general knowledge about the main characteristics at the lexical and syntactical levels and recorded the distinctive points and difficulties confronted in the translation process. Next, through a series of discussions between students and the supervisor, some translation methods of solving the difficulties were formed. In spite of their abundant information and various subjects, such as celebrity interviews, trendy information introduction and vogue criticism, the columns of Vogue share one common feature, that is, most of them are topics on the most popular and attractive information. Therefore, some notable columns can be found at lexical and syntactical levels as well as in the titles of the columns of Vogue. As for the titles and slogans in columns, a creative use of movie titles or buzzwords with short but complete sentence structure is proved to be an effective way. At the lexical level, numerous neologisms especially newly coined words that reflect fashion information are used; at the syntactical level, short sentences, exclamatory sentences and colloquialism are frequently used though in some self-narrative columns the complex long sentences with colloquial characteristic are also employed. The main difficulties the author was confronted with in the translation progress are those in translation of titles and slogans, colloquialism, neologism, and complex long sentences. Based on the principles of conciseness and accuracy, the author adopted the following methods in the process of translation:first, in translating the titles and slogans, change the original sentence structures into more acceptable structures to meet the reading habit of the Chinese readers; second, in translating colloquialisms, change them into the equivalent Chinese colloquial expressions to preserve their original taste; third, in translating neologisms and newly coined words, employ literal translation and even "zero translation" on the basis of a full consideration into their meaning and constructs, and for those that have widely acceptable correspondent Chinese versions, use them directly. In translating complex long sentences, two methods are adopted:sequential translation is used for those in accordance with the Chinese grammar and division and restructuring are employed to translate those not in agreement with the Chinese grammar in order for the Chinese reader to have a better understanding.Above all, translation of columns in Vogue enables the author to acquire a basic knowledge of the style of columns, discover the main translation difficulties, and find out some effective translation methods.
