Readers are of great importance as the target of literary works. Literature translations should also be reader-oriented, otherwise translated literary works may never complete the mission of cultural exchanges. Reader reception theory turns the study of literary works from author or text orientation to reader orientation, namely, the value of literary works are determined by readers. Since literary works have the aesthetic attributes that are different from other works, literature translation needs creative treason on the basis of differences in Chinese and Western languages and cultures to communicate these attributes to readers. The thesis discusses how creative treason is realized in literary translation from the perspective of the reader reception theory.Written by Diana Gabaldon, an American woman writer, Voyager is the third book in the Outlander series. The book is centered on time travelling 20th-century nurse Claire Randall and her 18th-century Scottish Highland warrior husband Jamie Fraser. It contains elements of historical fiction, adventure, romance and science fiction/fantasy. Based on the English to Chinese translation of Chapter 38 of the book, this thesis summarizes six ways to realize creative treason in literature translation including omission of pronouns or shifting them into nouns, name unification, word order adjustment, sentence splitting, paragraph connection and annotation. Besides, this thesis may provide some references on the basis of the reader reception theory for other translators when discussing the definition of "faithfulness'' or "treason" in literature translation.
