13th century was an important period in the exchange history of the nationalities and cultures between East and West. This exchange based on the Mongolian’s three expeditions and the establishment of the Mongolian empire.During the first half of 13 th century,Genghis Khan and his descendants had expedited the Central Asia,West Asia and East Europe three times, which generated the Ilkhanate. As an outside ruler,Ilkhanate has ruled the West Asia for one hundred years.Considering this, its policies had a far-reaching influence on itself and West Asia.In early times,Shamanism was the most important religion and a protogenic religion, which was believed by the nationalities of Altai Language Family, such as Tujue,Mongol. The contact between nomads in the Mongolian Plateau and other peoples in other areas with different beliefs became more and more close.Other religions-Nestorianism,Buddhism,Islam-had been gradually introduced to Mongolian tribes. The third conquest on the West was lead by Houlagou Khan in the autumn of 1253,which started from Mongolian Plateau and headed for West Asia and Middle East. The main force was composed of the Mongolian soldiers and people from surrounding areas. In this sense, this army could be regarded as the epitome of Mongolian empire.Ilkhanate was generated from this conquest. At first, all religions had their proper status and were equal in Ilkhanate. The reform of Ghazan Khan changed this situation,a series of polies were put into effect, including abandoned the religious tolerance policy, excluded other religions and put Islam in the domination. These polies had changed the religious situation in Ilkhanate perpetually. For political reason,Ghazan Khan accepted Islam and made it became the state religion. The reform of Islamization was from top to bottom, had a great influence on the history of Ilkhanate and the Islam world, even the whole world.By converted to Islam,Ghazan Khan solved many problems, such as the conflict of nationality and religion, the rejection of Muslims.Mongolians used this way to integrate themselves into the Islam world, lived in this place as a part of Muslims, even when their regime collapsed. The Islamization of Ilkhanate also had a huge impact on the Shiah’s victory in Iran and the extension of Islam towards east.
