In recent years,widely use of buzzwords in areas like politics,economy and culture and the strengthened international communication and cooperation of China have made translation study of buzzwords a hot topic.With the development of the study,problems like the translation criteria,translation methods and translatability are being focused.This thesis will research the translation of buzzwords from the perspective of aesthetics of reception.The research materials mainly come from the buzzwords lists released by Yaowenjiaozi,the buzzwords column named Shanghai daily,TV,books,papers and other media press at home and abroad.Aesthetics of reception offered a new angle and theoretical method for translation studies.As traditional translation methods are author-centered and text-centered,aesthetics of reception has shifted the traditional way to reader-centered translating methods.According to aesthetics of reception,it is acceptable for the translators to translate the text creatively because the translators are both the readers of the source text and the author of the target text.It is held that readers' reception towards a translation is the key to judge whether the translated version is successful or not.On the basis of aesthetics of reception,the paper analyzes the data by qualitative study.To begin with,the definition and features of buzzwords are illustrated.Then,it employs the three important ideas of aesthetics of reception,i.e.“horizon of expectations”,“appealing structure” and “concretization”,to analyze the application of aesthetics of reception to C-E translation of buzzwords and to explore the translation strategies.Finally,it is concluded that the combination of literal translation,free translation and transliteration or joint use of transliteration and free translation are the proper methods to translate those untranslatable buzzwords that are rich in Chinese culture.Overall,the application of aesthetics of reception to C-Etranslation of buzzwords widens the field of the theory,and it is hoped that this thesis will be a valuable reference for further study of aesthetics of reception and buzzwords translation.
