| Adolescents’positive traits refer to psychological characteristics that can help them lead a happy and successful life, resist risks, and contribute to others. At present, the Five Cs model is specifically targeted at describing youth positive traits, it has has good applicability among American teenagers between grade 5 and grade 12. However, its applicability in Chinese culture background has not been tested, this study will test its applicability in China youth. In addition, based on Seligman’s view about authentic happiness, that is, the recognition and application of character strengths is one of the important internal decisive factors of individual’s happiness, this research examined the relationship between the youth positive traits and happiness.This study consists of two parts:For Research 1, adaptation and validation of Positive Youth Development Questionnaire based on Five C model were tested among 2051 students from grade 5, grade 8 and grade 10 from Songyuan. The construct validity and internal consistency of PYD and all five Cs are acceptable in grade 5 and grade 8 from Songyuan; while in grade 10, character divided into responsibility and self transcendence, the six dimensions model is preferred. Correlations with depression, academic achievement and contribution replicated findings from earlier studies of the original English version.For Research 2, the relationships between positive traits and well-being were examined among 1780 students from grade 5, grade 8 and grade 10. Generally, in all three grades, positive traits have positive effect on most aspects of adolescents’well-being. Furthermore, it was found that Five Cs model has special explanation for some aspects of well-being beyond the local positive traits model. |
