The efficient decision-making is the key to success in an athletic competition. It has been demonstrated that the executive functions(EFs)could affect decision-making in sport. In the present research we tested the effect of executive functions on decision-making in blocking of volleyball players, and then explored the roles of the three core EFs(inhibition, updating, and shifting)play in decision-making in sport.Study One investigated the relationship between decision-making in blocking and the three core EFs.It revealed that the effect of EFs on decision-making was moderated by the motor skill level and the updating only affected the decision-making of elite athletes, and that the higher of the updating, the better in decision-making in blocking of high level volleyball player.Study Two demonstrated that only the updating could predict the blocking decision-making with a dual-task.Study Three showed that in the distracting situation, the predictive power of inhibition in blocking decision-making accuracy was higher than that of updating, and only updating could predict the reaction time of decision. Conclusions: The EF can affect the blocking decision-making of elite volleyball players, and the effects of the three core EFs on decision-making in sport are different. |
