Study On The Urban Features And Characteristics Of Xiqing District Based On Cultural Geography Theory

Since the late seventies of the last century, urban development all over our country entered a period of rapid development. Economic development and urban construction have been in the fast lane. Especially the rapid developments of today's science and technology, information technology have brought us into an era of "globalization". Sure there are the positive aspects for the arrival of the "globalization", but it is also a "double-edged sword". Similar construction around the city, the ongoing disappearance of the local culture has become a major issue in front of us. Under this background, the thesis starting point based on the perspective of cultural geography and aimed at expressing the importance of geographical culture on formation of the urban cultural features and characteristics. By the usage of the analytical case of Xiqing district, the thesis analyzes and researches on how to demonstrate Xiqing urban features and characteristics by means of geographical culture.Firstly the thesis discusses the domestic and foreign research development and related theories about urban features and characteristics. It also discusses the related concepts of cultural geography, local culture and urban features. The study direction is from the view of macro, medium and micro perspective to analyze the urban features and characteristics. Secondly by using Xiqing district as an analytical case, the thesis analyzed the impacts of "Canal culture", "New Year Painting culture", "Family Compound culture", "Jing Wu culture" to the urban features and characteristics. At the same time it also made a SWOT analysis of Xiqing urban features and characteristics and proposed analysis countermeasures. Then it analyzes the factors which affecting the urban features and characteristics of Xiqing district; thus determine the positioning of urban features and characteristics of Xiqing district; then from the aspects of overview of unban characteristic, special landscape system and the overall architectural style, public space and urban details to create a multi-level features and characteristics of Xiqing urban features and characteristics. Finally in conclusions and outlook, it concluded that we must inherit Xiqing urban features and characteristics so as to create the distinctive geographical features for Xiqing district. It also look to the future, despite the difficulties, but we must walk along the way of inheriting the geographical and cultural feature of Xiqing district, which is the only way to create a Xiqing urban feature and characteristics with regional cultural characteristics.
