In this paper, the author integrated theories of cognitive linguistics, comparative linguistics and ethnology to compare and analyze the similarities and differences between the collected Zhuang and Thai proverbs by applying the method of analysis, description and comparison. And it also discusses the theoretical basis of the similarities and differences of metaphors in Zhuang and Thai proverbs, trying to understand the cognitive universals and variations of the two peoples.The paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction, including research background, research purpose and significance, research contents and methods and the corpus sources. By summarizing the research status of Zhuang and Thai proverbs at home and abroad, it concluded that there is still research space for comparative studies of Zhuang and Thai proverbs. The author offers his own definition of proverb after systemizing various definitions of proverb in Chinese and Thai, and analyzes the metaphoric nature of proverbs as well.The second part makes a contrastive analysis between Zhuang and Thai proverbs in terms of the rule for word selections. It mainly discusses selections of spoken word, common thing words, weather words, Digital words, image words and fixed collocation words.The third part analyzes the source domains of Zhuang and Thai proverbs through the comparison of specific and abstract source domains.The fourth part is the conclusion part, comparing the metaphor forms of Zhuang and Thai proverbs in terms of similarities and differences of metaphorical objects and connotations.The fifth part discusses the theoretical basis of similarities and differences between metaphors in Zhuang and Thai proverbs by analyzing values, religious beliefs, production and living ways and philosophy thought.
