Mystical Metaphor-The Appreciation Of Klimt's Symbolism Paintings Style

Symbolism painting was formed during 1860s and 1870s.It was one of the main schools of painting in European literary and artistic thoughts.Its basic idea was to abandon the simple imitation of the material world.Through romantic approach of artists,it tried to express fantasy and dream-like self-conception using symbolic metaphor,and explored the new language of paintings' symbolic meaning.Gustav Klimt was the founder of the Vienna Secession in Austria.His painting style was very peculiar.He used symbolic expression to interpret the deep meaning of human life and death.He was known as the great master of the "symbolism of decorative"painting in the late 19th century and the early 20th century.This paper starts with reviewing the basic characteristics and development stages of symbolism painting,explores the basic style and characteristics of Klimt paintings,and excavates the factors of Klimt symbolism painting's formation through interpreting Klimt symbolism of decorative paintings.This paper clarifies the impact of Klimt symbolism painting contemporary artists and painting.There are four parts in this article.The first part briefly introduces symbolism school of painting and the stages of its development.The second part expounds the characteristics and style of Klimt symbolism painting,in terms of treating female image as main body,dominating appearance by the golden decorative style,releasing spiritual connotation of inner instinct,and combining eastern and western art painting elements,respectively.The third part introduces the factors that influenced Klimt symbolism painting,including objective factors like social environment and cultural context and subjective factors such as crisis of personal growth,crisis of artistic innovation and spiritual crisis of self-perception.The fourth part summarizes the analysis of the former three parts,and clarifies the influence of Klimt symbolism painting contemporary artists and painting.
