The Study Of The Twentieth Century Culture Upsurge And Zhang Dainian's Cultural Theory

Since the 1930 s Zhang Dainian has devoted himself to exploring the development of the Chinese culture. Under the guidance of the principles of Marxism, he promotes the heritage of the Chinese tradition on the basis of the Chinese culture with positive factors,which makes a contribution to the further development of the Chinese culture. By adhering to the subjectivity and nationality of the Chinese culture and learning something great in the west culture, Zhang Dainian puts forward the cultural theory of “comprehensive innovation”.The formation of Zhang Dainian's cultural theory has an inseparable relationship with the development of the Chinese culture upsurge in the twentieth century. The introduction of the thesis describes the cultural crisis caused by New Culture Movement whose influence produces cultural opposite between the liberal and the conservative. In the 1930 s,the liberal and the conservative had a hot discussion about the development of the Chinese culture. The author holds that the cause of the cultural crisis is accompanied with the reconstruction of the culture, so to some extent the cultural crisis will be resolved. At that time the conservative advocates the revival of Confucianism to renew the Chinese culture while the liberal attempts to make China a bourgeois republic and to promote bourgeois culture. However, the Marxist tries to combine both the Chinese culture and the west culture with the Marxism to reconstruct the Chinese culture. There are still Liberalism,Conservatism and Marxism that participated in the 1980 s culture upsurge, which was obviously that Zhang Dainian's cultural theory of “comprehensive innovation” is a typical paradigm.This thesis consists of three parts. The first part is about the cultural theory of“creative integration” and culture big discussion put forward by Zhang Dainian in the1930 s. The second part elaborates the relative theory of integrative creation. In the third part, the thesis describes the development of the cultural theory from both the macro aspect and the micro aspect. The relationship between the formation of the theory and the discussion over the development of culture, and the development of the Zhang Dainian's cultural theory are discussed from a macro aspect. The advantages of the integrated creation and its values are analyzed from the micro aspect.Zhang Dainian holds that the Marxist theory should be adhered to so as to make theChinese culture creative and innovated. In the 1990 s, he re-examines the development of Chinese culture from the aspects of the cultural values, insisting that culture is the core of its values and that the reconstruction of the cultural values is the key to cultural reconstruction. He puts forward a series of projects about the cultural value reconstruction,which makes great contributions to the construction of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics and is of great significance.
