Adaptation refers to the process that art works are converted from one kind of medium to another medium. The first time of the realistic literary classics, The Ordinary World, to be adapted into teleplay was in 1990. After twenty-five years, it occurred in public sight in the form of TV image again in the beginning of 2015. This thesis focuses on the creative interpretation that the 2015 teleplay version made to the characters from the original text, meanwhile compare and analyze the different ways of image shaping between different versions of the novel The Ordinary World from based the original text. It is expected that this thesis can provide some minute but helpful reference for the television adaptation work under the background of the market-oriented context nowadays by the experiences and lessons extracted from specific adaptation practice. On the basis of conforming to the subject connotation of the original novel, the 2015 teleplay version makes proper adjustment to the relationship and expressive function of three main character groups. It weakens the central position of the young intellectual group through transferring the narrating focus to the expression of survival status of rural labor community. At the same time, the 2015 version emphasizes the mission and situation of leadership in both city and countryside. On one hand,2015 version makes a integral interpretation to the character groups, on the other hand, it also makes multidimensional adaptation to single character by plot adjustment, audio-visual language and so on. This kind of multidimensional adaptation includes promote personal charm of main characters, making the negative personality of the minor characters more obvious. It intensifies the adapter’s affective evaluation by conflict and opposition between the beautiful and ugly. Meanwhile, this TV version gives the characters new connotation with comic and poetic rewriting ways. The teleplay adaptation of literature classics should be the production of combination of contemporary and historic consciousness. Based on being faithful to the original work, it is inevitable to carry with the stamp of mainstream consciousness and adapter’s subjective intention. Under the guidance of different literary context,1990 and 2015 teleplay versions adopt different languages and methods of expression, and shows different value orientation. Under the guidance of elite culture and authoritative leading speech,1990 version is totally faithful to the original work and focus on the traditional family-oriented notion and describes the character’s tragic life situation; while owing to the popular appeal of contemporary age, 2015 version makes comic adaptation to the characters, and highlight the kindheartedness and feminist consciousness of the original work. However, the adaptation strategies of idolization and conceptualization adopted by 2015 version weaken the attraction of characters and the subject depth of the original work. Based on compliance with audio-visual art rules, Film-television adaptation of literature classics should deal with the relationship between history and reality, faithfulness and recreation, and realize the adaptation with proper contemporary consciousness.
