The Higher Vocational Education is designed to cultivate and enhance the vocational students' comprehensive English application capabilities, especially the capability to use English to deal with the daily and foreign business activities. The capability of English writing is not only one of the culminating manifestations of comprehensive language competence, but also one of the ultimate goals of English teaching. English practical writing, as one of the important writing skills, which is frequently used in daily life and working, should be taken seriously by the students and teachers. Therefore, how to improve vocational students' English practical writing proficiency, how to find a method which is consistent with the basic requirements of vocational English teaching, fits a pattern of work-integrated learning education,and is suitable for students' actual situation of the effective methods of English practical writing teaching has attracted wide attention of experts and scholars at home and abroad.This thesis tries to apply recitation-imitation into the practical writing of vocational schools. After a comprehensive review of relevant literature at home and abroad on English writing teaching and an analyzation of related SLA theories, including the theory of language chunks, the input hypothesis, the memory theory, the output hypothesis and the theory of behaviorism, the author tries to apply recitation-imitation to English practical writing teaching so as to improve students' English practical writing proficiency.In this research, 83 subjects of two classes from Non-English major in Henan Industry and Information Technology Vocational School were invited to participate in the study. The recitation-imitation English practical writing teaching was applied in the experiment class and the traditional practical writing teaching was applied in the control class. The instruments included questionnaires, tests and interviews.The study lasted three months and the author collected large numbers of data, in pretest, post-test,pre-questionnaire, post-questionnaire and interviews. All the data were analyzed by the software SPSS 21.0after the experiment.At end of the experiment, the study showed that recitation-imitation English practical writing teaching can improve learners' practical writing proficiency, which can be well shown from the P-value of the pretest and post-test. In addition, students' attitude towards English practical writing changed after analyzing from the experimental data of pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire. The result of interview also suggests that recitation-imitation English practical teaching method was valuable for them. At the end of this thesis, in order to make the recitation-imitation English practical writing teaching into further application more effectively, some suggestions were put forward. Meanwhile, the author also showed somelimitations in this study.
