Hong Ying is a famous contemporary Chinese feminist writer.Her most famous work is her autobiographical novel Daughter of the River,The beautiful flowers,etc.,and the description of body is one of the main contents of such works.Daughter of the River,The beautiful flowers and so on,which take the growth of a girl named Liuliu from a poor family grow into a well-known writer as a clue,in the vast historical background,in the confluence of Chinese and foreign cultures,not only demonstrate the character's soul but also show the vicissitudes of human body.The identity of the illegitimate daughter makes her receive the loss and suffering led by her father's absence since childhood;her family's poverty makes her taste the hardships of life;childhood hunger makes her growing body tormented.Moreover,this hunger is not just physical,and also sexual and mental.And her slum home,that slum environment--south bank of Chongqing,where she is hungry and poor,is the extension and the symbol of her strong growth of the body.Getting out of the South Bank that is called “the cecum of the city”,she struggled hard on the other side of the world.Finally,she not only found herself,but also identified with her hometown,identified with her mother,identified with her family,identified with the South Bank and identified with the river that she was born and raised,becoming the daughter of the river--Daughter of the River(the translation of “The hungry daughter”).
