On Xiao Hong, The Freedom Of Women's Writing And Life Choice

The fundamental reason that made thousand of females living an embrassing life with a weak and low position is the system which strengthened the power of fathers,focused on men's power and weakened women's.As an independent individual,the females develops and advances in society.They need to stand equal to men,with independent liberty and dignity.“Men and women are equal” was a slogan put forward in the Xinhai Revolution,after which women's liberation begun to occur in the history.New Cultural Movement pioneered the concept of “new morality,democracy and science”,admitting that independent dignity of a person is respected,which struck the Confucianism and gradually freed women Whether to walk out of society or return home became a question for females with knowledge,but actually this showed the great conflict of women living in modern times.Xiao-Hong,born in a landlord family from a distant area,was one of the four great talented women and lived a worst life among them.She completely showed a tragedy caused by the betrayal in her destiny,with her weak body and unruly attitude towards life.She learned the advanced idea of the May Fourth Movement and Chinese and foreign literature and was affected deeply by the works of Lu-Xun,Mao Dun and Sindaire,an American writer.Such a woman had a strong desire of pursuing life,happiness and value.She would be neither a wife nor daughter of the landlord.Instead,she would like to be a revolutionary,spreading the idea about women's independence,liberty,equality and liberation.Living in such a society without providing condition for women to pursue life,a woman like her would be a tragedy,whether she left or stayed.This thesis probes into Xiao Hong's experience,her free writing,choice of life's path,value and meaning by referring to her works.
