Marx surveyed that all myth conquered and controled the force of nature by the imagination. He also deemed that natural and social phenomena are the materiasl of Greek mythology,but they are already assimilated in an unintentionally artistic manner by the imagination of the people.This particular nature and social phenomena are the source of art and mythology. The myth of King Shu rooted in the unique ancient Shu, it must be affected by the social, historical and cultural phenomenon of Shu. So this paper tries to use the perspective of mythology to explore the historical and cultural truth of ancient Shu, which were hidden in the the myth of King Shu.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part studies the production of the myth of King Shu. Firstly, this paper gives a simple introduction of the ancient Shu, which is the background of the myth of King Shu. Secondly, to investigate and review the achievement of ancestors and origin of family's history is the commom phenomenon in the early human culture on the world-wide. This paper uses the ancestral myth and legend of ethnic minorities and the literature and unearthed materials of the Shang and Zhou dynasties, to demonstrate that biography of King Shu was based on the history of the king Shu.Finally, combining the ideographic features of the Ba-shu graphic language, and proposes that Ba-shu graphic language have played an important role in the spread process of the myth of King Shu, they like the prompt for symbolic that preserved the original ancient knowledge and collective memories, which contributed to the myth of King Shu was recorded by the written records of the central plains.The second part researches on the main body of the myth of King Shu. First of all, this paper explores the characteristics of the three generation of the myth of King Shu,such as incoherent succession,different ethnic groups,cultural pluralism.Secondly,on the myth of the emperor Wang,this paper considers Wangdi is the title which is closely connected with the religious worship and ritual activities of the ancient Shu people.Bieling who is good at river-harnessing instead of Wangdi who is good at farming is necessity of historical development.The demise in the myths and legends can not exist.Finally, for the myth of emperor Cong,this paper argues Bielingwho is the last king of Shu in the myths and legends that is a wizard comes from Jingchu.The third part researches on the cultural implication of the myth of King Shu.On the one hand,this paper argues the content of the myth reflects the ancient Shu social transition from fishing and hunting civilization to agricultural civilization, and the spirit of the myth advocates such as hard-working in farming and the group interests which are typical spirit quality in the farming civilization.On the other hand,this paper analyzes the myth of King Shu embodies the primitive religious beliefs of the people of the ancient Shu,such as the worship of Minshan and their ancestor.
