The Narrative Characteristics Of Chinese Traditional Figure Painting

From the perspective of the practice in painting,the paper mainly studies the narrative feature of the traditional Chinese figure painting combining characters in painting,which illustrates the practice of artists on the issue of the narrative presentation.There exists a long history of Chinese traditional figure painting.Tracing back from the relict elements of early works on the wall or vessel,recent researches has discovered that the Chinese figure painting presents a significant narrative feature.As the core part of the narrative,the combination of characters is closely connected to the scenario of the theme.Meanwhile,the figure painting is not able to avoid the limitation of itself as the presentation of the narrative.Since then,artists have been consistently trying different methods in order to improve its presentation.Based on the study subject,the essay would discuss the issue in two parts.With the presentation of the history of the traditional Chinese figure painting with narrative theme,first chapter would argue the importance of the characters' combination on the practice of this particular category.The second part would focus on several case studies on representative master pieces from great artists.The case studies would study the exquisite of their presentations on narrative theme on different levels---details,atmospheres,background and the entirety.The objective of the study is to define and summarize the essential of the presentation on narrative themes of traditional Chinese figure painting combining the author's personal perspective.The paper tends to offer a different point of view by discussing the practice of the aesthetics on the art work.Hopefully,it could contribute in a way to bringing more diverse creation into the ancient art.
