Hong Kong gangster films, as a classic genre of film, has created many female images since the 1980s. In order to facilitate the research, the author classified their identifications as policewomen, female bandits and female victims, who are the three most common female images in Hong Kong gangster films. On the basis of film studies, sociology, psychology and other theoretical knowledge, this article analyzed these three types of female images in the dual background of patriarchal society and gangster films with the feminist thought as a starting point. Chapter I, "policewomen Images in Hong Kong Gangster Films", focuses on the policewomen’s contradictory characteristics and the transmutation process of their screen images since the 1980s Chapter II, "Female Gangster Images in Hong Kong Gangster Films", discusses the tragic and fateful ends of the evil mysterious female gangsters; Chapter III, "Female Victims in Hong Kong Gangster Films", analyzed and summarized the female victims’ reactions and responds of fear and despair from the perspective of sociology, and also their roles in their families, as well as their narrative functions and roles in these films; Chapter Ⅳ, "the Absence of Female Consciousness of Hong Kong Gangster Films", comprises two aspects, one is the exploration of why females lost their discourse right in Hong Kong gangster films, the second is the analysis of their identity crisis. |
