The Expression Of Homosexuality In Taiwan Films From 1985 To 2015

Homosexuality is a social and cultural phenomenon. Films as the asymptote of reality, are able to reflect vividly the living condition and emotions in life of the homosexual community. Within the scope of themes on homosexuality, Taiwan films are excellent in quality and quantity and they are representative in terms of the representation of the lives of homosexuals.This paper takes the expression of homosexuality found in Taiwan films from 1985 to 2015 as the object of study, and expounds the subject from four aspects:its course of development, the images of the characters it portrays, its artistic expression, and its cultural connotation. The first chapter presents a staged demarcation of the development of the expression of homosexuality in Taiwan films, and an analysis of the origin and context of its emergence and its direction of development. The second chapter combines several films to discuss the portrayal of certain characters, thereby: summarizing the characteristics of related homosexual characters, and further having a glimpse of the characteristics of Taiwan's homosexual community. The third chapter discusses the artistic representation of the expression of homosexuality in Taiwan films, and through horizontal comparison of the films, extracts the commonalities of those texts in terms of narrative strategies, audio-visual styles and aesthetic features The fourth chapter mainly uses for reference postmodern theories including the discussion of the relationship between subject and power discourse by Foucault, queer theory, and feminist theories to conduct an in-depth discussion of the social and cultural connotations refracted by the expression of homosexuality.
