In 2004, The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television released a public announcement, which says that the government has decided to support and promote the development of China's film, TV and animation industry. This announcement is a turning point for the development of animation industry. China's animated TV series is provided with the optimal opportunity of all time to develop itself. Myths and legends is a traditional theme of China's animated TV series. However, in the new developmental context of the 21st century, those animated TV series which are based on myths and legends are going to take on a new look. In view of the above-mentioned facts, the author, based on the macro-development of China's inimated TV series, carries out an in-depth and systematic research into China's mimated TV series on myths and legends since the year of 2004. This paper is divided into a total of four chapters. In the first chapter, the author first distinguishes between "animated TV series" and "animation", second defines the concept of "China's animated TV series", and last gives a brief summary of the overall development of China's animated TV series on myths and legends since 2004. In the second chapter, the author, from dimensions of material selection and thematic meaning, analyzes the characteristics of narratives of China's animated TV series on myths and legends. In the third chapter, the author analyzes audio-visual features of China's animated TV series on myths and legends from three aspects:character, picture and sound effect. In the last chapter, the author points out the difficulties encountered by China's animated TV series on myths and legends and then comes up with corresponding suggestions to enhance its aesthetic value and socio-cultural value,In this paper, the author takes the art of animation as the starting point of research, applies integrally relevant theories of film and television, refers to multi-disciplinary theories of mythology, literature, aesthetics, cultural anthropology, etc., watches a large number of animated TV series, and finally carries out a relatively comprehensive study on this topic.
