The Evolvement Of The Xiwangmu Images In Material Objects As An Example From Han To Jin Dynasty

The Xiwangmu is one of the most important deities in China mythology system.The original images are the half men and half beasts,the clergy is relatively simple.Thereafter the godhood development is diversified,and the status is also rising.Xiwangmu becomes the main deity of folk beliefs in the Han Dynasty.During the period of Wei and Jin Dynasties,Xiwangmu was named as " the first female immortal " by Taoism.In the folk,the clergy gradually returns to the original content of longevity and its influence gradually weakened.In modern times in archaeological excavation,it unearthed a large number of image materials including the Xiwangmu.The rich Xiwangmu images that belonged to stones and murals from Han to Jin Dynasty has long been concerned to scholars and emerged abundant research.In fact,in addition to the stone carvings and murals Xiwangmu images,independent objects such as the Xiwangmu images on the bronze mirrors,shake money trees,lamp holders,potteries,bronzes and other materials,and provide reliable materials for the study of the Xiwangmu.This thesis choose material objects to study the evolvement of the Xiwangmu images,and look forward to increase the Xiwangmu's research content.This article first carries on the classification and sorting of the Xiwangmu images on the bronze mirrors,shake money trees,lamp holders,potteries,bronzes and other materials from Han to Jin Dynasty,and interpret the Xiwangmu images' elements one by one,summarize the rule of the Xiwangmu images' development;Secondly,this article analysis the characteristics of artistic images of the Xiwangmu from the production techniques,image configurations,composition forms and subject matter contents,and analysis the function of iconic images on this basis,ascension,wealth and longevity in addition to fierce suspicious blessing;The final analysis the origin of iconic Xiwangmu images and its relationship with Buddhism.
