China has long been known as the state of rites and music.The core of Chinese rites and music is the court music, a music form advocated by the Confucian School.Through standardizing social orders and moralizing the citizens, it instills beauty, virtue and moral ethics into the society to eventually attain the ideal of harmony.Based on Confucianism,the aesthetic ideology of court music is the practice of Confucian thoughts on socil arrangement.Therefore, in the present paper,the writer intends to explore the origin and development of Chinese rites and music, classify various periods of court music progress,and overview the ideological bases of different periods from the perspective of the current thoughts.Meanwhile,the author attempts to summarize the humanism and aesthetics represented by court music and elaborate on its aesthetic features.In addition,the present scores of court music will be interpreted and proofread to serve as the theoretical foundation for classic music revival.
