The Strategy Of Protection And Development Of The Nanjing Ming City Wall Under The Background Of Applying For Entering The World Heritage List

The Nanjing Ming City Wall has outstanding and universal value. Compared with other famous city walls in the world, it has unique characteristics and charm. At the critical moment of applying for entering the World Heritage List, how to protect it effectively and develop it rationally in the urban modernization, not only to ensure the inheritance and continuation of the historical context, but also to ensure the cultural heritage "living" in the present, realizing its pluralistic value and promoting urban development and social progress, is a major issue facing the government.The introduction part elaborates the research background, research significance, research contents and methods et cetera, and summarizes the research status of cultural heritage protection and development both at home and abroad as well as the relevant research status of the Ming City Wall.The first chapter discusses the concept of cultural heritage and urban cultural heritage as well as the relevant information of applying for entering the World Heritage List, analyzes the theoretical basis and necessity for government to fulfill the duties of urban cultural heritage protection and development.The second chapter briefly describes the history of the Ming City Wall, analyzing it’s historical value and practical value.The third chapter sorts up the protection status of the Ming City Wall and the history of its application for entering the World Heritage List. Aiming at the requirements in the application and the problems existing in the protection, and on the premise of the protection principles of authenticity, integrity and sustainable development, the four strategies to strengthen the scientific protection of the Ming City Wall are putted forward:perfecting the laws and regulations construction, promoting the construction of the organization mechanism, strengthening propaganda and education work, deepening the international exchanges and cooperation.The fourth chapter carries on the SWOT analysis to the development of the Ming City Wall. On this basis, and according to the development principles of protection priority, government-domination and commonweal, the four strategies to realize the rational development of the Ming City Wall are putted forward:perfecting the management mechanism, creating world-class brand culture, vigorously developing cultural tourism, actively promoting the application for entering the World Heritage List.Finally, a conclusion is drawn:government departments must take the corresponding responsibility actively, correctly handling the relationship between the protection and the development, the relationship between the protection and the development of the Ming City Wall and urban construction, relationship between the protection and the development of the Ming City Wall and the application for entering the World Heritage List, to realize the permanent inheritance and sustainable development of the Ming City Wall.
