Ernest Hemingway(1899-1961) is one of the most influential American writers in the20 th century, most of his works tend to describe foreign countries, which are different from the United States, such as Italy, Spain, Africa, etc. In his writing, the image of Africa occupies a very important position. This paper based on his two novels: Green Hills of Africa(1935) and True at First Light(1949), three short stories in Africa: The Snows of Kilimanjaro(1936), The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber(1936) and An African Story(1935), in order to do a research on Hemingway's African affection, African writing and cultural significance.Firstly, this paper start from the writer's desire to Africa, summarize Hemingway's twice travel to Arica. Secondly, from writer's description of original natural home, praise to “noble savage” and courage in hunting activities to explore his African affection.Finally, analyze Hemingway's anxiety towards modern civilization and recall on original civilization to seek the reason that he have African Affection and the meaning behind the cultural reflection.Hemingway lived in the modern city, he saw the rapid development of industrial civilization has brought human civilization disease. He put the vision to distant continent,use the primitive civilization to cure modern spiritual disease, to retrieve vitality and pursue ideal living conditions and spiritual world.
