Pina Bausch is Germany's most famous dance choreographer. She established the direction of the development of “dance theatre”, which makes her a milestone figure in the history of modern dance. Her choreographic style is unique and always showed a distinctive topic. Due to the personality of the dance theatre, people from both the dance world and the theatre start to imitate her style.Pina Bausch 's " Rite of Spring " has inherited the tradition of German expressionist dance, and also showed the use of her significant performance practices from most of her works. " The Rite of Spring " as the final chapter of a full ballet was adapted into an independent work shortly after its debut and became the most popular repertoire of the Wuppertal dance troupe. This thesis aims at summarizing the style features of the " Rite of Spring “ and explore Pina Bausch's creative approach via analysis, discussion, and study of the " The Rite of Spring “. Pina Bausch's creative ideas and what impact they have on the development of Chinese modern dance will also be discussed by studying the various aspects of the dance movements, composition, expressiveness, and the dance theatre.
