The thesis is to interpret Ding Gaoben's Chuanzhen Xinling, the secret of traditional Chinese painting.The schema language of traditional Chinese painting is discussed by means of analyzing the requirement and methods of painting producing. This thesis tries to analyze the origin and function of Chinese traditional painting from the angle of cultural anthropology. It holds the view that Chinese traditional portrait is an art adopted for the completion of ceremony. This thesis interpretates the aesthetic significance of vividness, likeness, and expressiveness and the evolution pattern of the traditional painting. It points out that likeness and vividness aim at the outer form of a specific object. However, expressiveness is the essence of the portraiture and it is generally believed that it reflects a higher level of painting. But, in fact, likeness is the core value of it. This thesis also discusses the extension of Chinese traditional portraits in the contemporary, and it compares and analyzes the style between traditional portraits and the modern ones. It discuss the artistic characteristics of Chinese traditional portraits by studying ChuanzhenXinLing, and points out how we should inherit and develop what is useful and discard what is not...
