This article attempted to find out the cultural roots of the reason why "Socrates attack poet" through investigating the source of controversy of poem and philosophy. As an important argument, "the death of Socrates" actually means a bad consequence of Socrates'(rational thinking) challenge to Homer(poetic thinking). However,Socrates had successfully shifted people's attention from the body to the soul. In western history, the impact of "Controversy of poem and philosophy" embodied in two aspects. In metaphysics, no matter Socrates/Plato's "utopia"(idea), Christian "god", Kant's “Physical self” or Hegel's "concept", were all trying to build a common moral foundation which we can not see in the world. Besides, this moral foundation has unshakable correctness which ensured that the humanity specification can be widely used in all times, all societies and all nationalities. In "poetics", Aristotle's poetics was obviously refuting Socrates/Plato's thoughts of poetics. As one disciplinary work, Poetics had paid more attention to set up poetic rules. In this way,Aristotle's poetics had become the theoretical support of classical poetics which were also pursuit a common rules and absolutely right theory system to guide and standardize the sensibility of art creation. Therefore, we can see that actually Aristotle was also influenced by Socrates/Plato because Poetics has a profound hostility to the art of material. The most valuable part of art belongs to its spirituality, and material, such as external look, color, performance is the most vulgar part. The value rules on "soul and body", "eternal and rot", "universal and general" which was gradually established since "Controversy of poem and philosophy", had eventually reversed by Nietzsche.
