Language is the carrier of culture and an indispensable expression pattern of culture at the same time. Likewise, translation not only is transformation between the two languages, but also involves transformation between the two cultures. In the process of translation, there exists certain collision or fusion between the two different cultures.Luotuo Xiangzi is one of the works during mature writing period of Lao She. It not only is filled with folk language but also has the conciseness of artistic language.Lao She was adept in using Beijing dialect to depict characters and describe events, which makes his works full of local color and strong vitality. In 1945, Evan King translated Luotuo Xiangzi into Rickshaw Boy. After its publication, it enjoyed a high international reputation. With his familiarity with Chinese language, custom and culture, there contains certain creative treason in Evan King's translation version. This article analyzes creative treason in Evan King's translation version from the following three aspects, namely domestication and foreignization; mistranslation and omission; adaptation and addition. In the process of cultural conveyance, domestication or foreignization is adopted. Sometimes, the use of foreignization makes translation lack of intelligibility, while it faintly reveals source language culture. The employment of domestication makes translation understandable and readable, while it may weaken the expression of cultural elements. The choice of translation strategy is one of the forms of a translator's subjectivity. It reflects to which extent a translator presents foreign culture to his target readers.Mistranslation is discussed from the two sides: intentional mistranslation and unintentional mistranslation. Intentional mistranslation is caused by translators' specific purpose(s). Unintentional mistranslation is mainly reflected in the understanding of culture, logical relation and polysemic words. It is caused because oftranslators' shortage of background knowledge and deviation of understanding. As for omission, from the point of expression technique, it mainly focuses on the omission of exposition and description, which is used in the original text to foil. Omission of these parts do reduce the expression force of the context. Mistranslation especially intentional mistranslation and omission also reflects translators' subjectivity.Creative treason in Evan King's Rickshaw Boy also reflects in adaptation and addition. Influenced by core value, readers' expectation and language habits, the translation version involves in generalization and even rewriting of the ending. For the reason that Chinese is topic-prominent language, emphasizing parataxis, while English is subject-prominent language, emphasizing hypotaxis, personal pronouns and conjunctions are frequently added in Evan King's translation version. A translator's adaptation and addition to the original text embody his subjectivity in the process of translation.Creative treason is the embodiment of translators' subjectivity. Research on it reveals the value of the translation version.
