Research On The Idea Of Junzi In Pre-Qin

The concept of Junzi originated from the pre-Qin period has great significance in the developing process of Chinese traditional culture. Under the background of Yin(Shang) and Zhou dynasties during the state and regime revolution, the existent concepts of “Jun” and “Zi” have gradually collaborated. Junzi, as a newly re-combined concept has emerged at the right moment becoming the accurate concept to describe the unique status of heirs of kings in Shang dynasty under the early-stage patriarch system. At the same time of the descending of the doctrine of fatality of people in Zhou Dynasty, the concepts of “Tian” and “De” have been related with abstract “virtue”, and then promoted the meaning of Junzi extending from “status” to “morality”. Meanwhile, the concept of Junzi has respectively come up with a series of relevance with natural images such as treasures and landscapes through two threads of the internal and external. The first is the communication and fusion with ancient jade culture by taking the doctrine of fatality as the very link. The second is using the unique aesthetic taste in ancient China of “comparing gentleman' virtue with jade” through natural images as an approach of association.After the decadence of The Western Zhou dynasty, the social class idea has won a place in people's concept of Junzi. The situation has been completely reinvented until Confucius and offspring ideologists made philosophical breakthroughs on relations between heaven and man. After the “central breakthrough”, although the philosophers have made inventions on “gentleman's doctrines”, their pursuit of “Dao” is the consensus inherited from three generations cultural traditions. We should pay attention to Confucianism “Junzi” and the importance characteristic in higher level that “sages” are all “masters”, as well as the mentality of expanding teachings inherent in early-stage Confucianism that commonly and profoundly reflected in this characteristic and the philosophical significance born in the concept of “sage”.
