<Ru Xing>’s View Of Gentleman And Its Contemporary Value

<Ru Xing> is an important document of ancient Confucianism.This article has appeared in both <Li Ji> and <Kongzi Jiayu>.The contents of the two articles are almost the same.However,there has been a dispute about the authenticity of <Kongzi Jiayu> in history,so the book of rites <Ru Xing> is paid more attention and has a greater influence in the academic circles.Of course,"Confucian" and "gentleman" can not be simply equated,but in pre Qin Confucianism,there is a subtle relationship between them,or there is a certain internal relationship between them.Confucius once said: "you are a gentleman Confucian,not a villain Confucian." <Lunyu · Yongye>it can be said that a gentleman is the ideal personality pursued by Confucianism.Although in <Ru Xing>,"Junzi" appears only once at the beginning,"Qiu Wenzhi: Junzi’s learning is also broad,and his clothing is also rural;Qiu does not know Confucian clothing." <Li ji · Ru xing> in this paragraph,the Confucianists in the author’s works refer to the scholars.In this sense,<Li ji · Ru xing> can be regarded as the ancient Confucian literature to explain the concept of gentleman.Therefore,through the study of <Ru Xing>,we can present the Confucian concept of gentleman more comprehensively.Gentleman is the core of Confucianism,but the meaning of the word is in the course of Confucian development is not always the same,but has experienced a process from connotation to extension,In Confucian classics,the concept of "gentleman" has not been clearly defined,which makes the Confucian concept of gentleman seem fragmented and trivial.What is the connotation of the word "gentleman" and the view of gentleman in Confucianism? This paper attempts to start with <Ru Xing>,by comparing <Confucius>,<Meng Zi>,<Xun Zi>’s Thoughts on gentleman with the Confucians in <Ru Xing>,so as to get the view of gentleman in<Ru Xing>;then I combine with <Shi Jing>,<Zhou Yi>,<Lun Yu> and other books to sort out the change process of Confucian view of gentleman,and reveal the relationship between Confucians and gentleman in <Ru Xing> and the relationship between them Finally,this paper combines the gentleman view in <Ru Xing> with the reality of contemporary Chinese moral construction to explore its modern value.In China in the 21 st century,people often use "Confucian" and "gentleman" to describe a person’s image and temperament,which seems to show that in the contemporary era,the Confucian and gentleman are still the personality models advocated by the Chinese people.In the 21 st century,China’s economy presents a prosperous scene.In addition to the relatively good material conditions brought by the prosperous economy,it also has a huge impact on people’s spiritual world,and people’s mentality has become more open-minded,the public’s thinking is more diversified,personalized,excessive development of personality and excessive emphasis on the subject consciousness.The over development of personality and the over emphasis of subjective consciousness lead to the aggravation of contradictions and conflicts between people.The negative effect brought by the overemphasis and praise of egoism is the decline of collective consciousness,and people become more and more self-centered and selfish.As a high standard of moral personality,gentleman is gradually ignored and even abandoned by the times,this is the key to the frequent occurrence of moral problems in China.In today’s China,our times are calling for a gentleman,calling for high-quality talents with Confucian character.China also wants to cultivate a gentleman of good character.Therefore,the study of<Ru Xing> has a very important modern value.
