As a special kind of social phenomenon, language is closely related to social change and development. Social life changes rapidly, which language reflects, and then language not only observes but also records the tenses of social life. Therefore new words become the hotspot and focus of the Chinese academic circle. Since 2006, state language work committee have released the annual new words every year in the Chinese language life status report.This paper lists the 364 new terms as the main research object, which have been released by the national ministry of education and the language work committee in the Chinese language life status report of 2014. Then we can study the linguistic characteristics of 364 new words from multiple perspectives. We focus on investigating semantic features and mode of construction of the 2013 annual new words. I'm looking forward to making contributions to the study of new words.This article is divided into five chapters.Chapter One mainly studys the definition and research status of new words, also study the value of studying the 2013 annual new words, with the introduction of object and method for research.Chapter Two focuses on the number of syllables and using frequency of 2013 annual new words. Chapter Three focuses on the semantic features and mode of construction of the 2013 annual new words. Chapter Four focuses on the causes of the 2013 annual new words, mainly from two aspects of social factors and linguistic factors.Chapter Five is the conclusion. It summarizes the research contents of the first four chapters, and analyzes the study deficiency, but also with the emphases and difficulties in the research of new words.
