The Research And Analysis Of Chinese Buddhism Repentance Thought

Although Chinese Buddhist repentance comes from Indian Buddhist thought, the continuous fusion with the local culture in the process of development and deepening result in the transition to repent repentance system with local characteristics from the Indian Buddhist repentance thought, and eventually sink to religious ceremonies for the only purpose of blessing and avoiding disaster. The explanation of repentance in Chinese Buddhist can be divided into two directions, somebody like Dao Xuan and Yi Jing advocate maintaining original significance of repentance in Indian Buddhism.The others such as Master Zhi Zhe and the other Tiantai Seck eminent monks think that there is no need to rigidly adhere to the original meaning of repentance, but reasonable argue the meaning of repentance. Generally, the repentance must include three elements, namely the repentance subjects, repentance objects and repentance content. Among that, the repentance subjects are not only the persons, but everything which is organism. And the repent objects is primarily the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and virtuous Buddhist monk. For the repentance content, it is not only the earthly sin, also including all sin from the beginningless. In Buddhism, the Buddha has no contract or agreement with people, so how could it can ensure the effectiveness and effect of their repentance? And the theoretical basis of what? All of it is based on the Buddha-nature treatise, the Origin and karma reincarnation theory. Therefore, the repentance thought of Chinese Buddhism was able to develop. According to the difference in wish and mind of the confessor, the reason for the repentance can be divided into three classes as follows: repentance for their own, repentance for filial piety and repentance for sentient beings. The repentance method in Buddhism involving in practice repentance and rationale repentance. Among them, the practice repentance mainly introduced precept repenance, repentance before the figure of Buddha and chant the name of Buddha repentance. And the rationale repentance introduced the apperceiving thesunyata of the guilt, fake-mind theory of free and anatman, the ultimate aim of all are to know that the reality of sin and finally achieve the nirvana. Based on these study,the author analyze ethical implications of Chinese Buddhism repentance thought from an ethical point of view and points out that repentance concept of Chinese Buddhist reflects the unit in transcendence and secular, self-interest and altruism, self-discipline and heteronomy. What is more, for the errors of contemporary society repentance thought, the author trying to reveal inspiration induced by the repentance concept of Chinese Buddhist for the contemporary repentance.
