A Personality Research Of Zeng Guofan

As a kind of research method, narrative research has been widely used in many fields.The introduction of the narrative into the personality has become a new way to interpret the personality. From the perspective of development, it is clear that the stability and change of personality are all there. According to this, Mc Adams has put forward a more comprehensive description of the personality of the three levels: dispositional trait, characteristics of adaptability and life story.This paper will be based on the theory and method of the life story of Mc Adams.Through the analysis of Zheng Guofan ’s texts, we tries to outline his personality traits,personality performance and motivation, and personality development of dynamic personality structure according to the narratives of Zeng Guofan,then reveals reasons behind his high achievement and high creativity from the dimension of personality.In the aspect of personality traits, we got “practical and conscientious”,“ competitive and brave”,“self-disciplined and earnest”,“disinterested and fair” and “loyal and loyal” by Adjective Test. Among them,“practical and conscientious” and “ competitive and brave”are important traits in Zeng Guofan ’s personality structure. Through the narrative, we can see Zeng Guofan in high conscientiousness, high extraversion and dominance.After mid adult,there is a certain degree of neurotic tendency, agreeableness should be reflected in a certain degree, but not obvious.In personality and motivation level,through the narrative theme and image analysis, we found Zeng with high achievement motivation and power motives, and he showed the higher self-desire to control, the pursuit of self-growth. The pursuit of achievement is the big five personality traits in the important performance of responsibility, and thus the dynamic personality structure and static personality structure has a certain internal consistency of personality.In terms of personality development, through comparative analysis of the three chapter of Zeng, his self-understanding and cognition has improved in the middle of adult. There are significant differences in the level of meaning construction which can prove that. At the same time, he has shown a certain neurotic tendency, in which the narrative tone turned negative inthis period. Zeng’ achievement motivation was throughout his life,with slightly weaken in his old age. Zeng Guofan ’s life story is a dramatic story, he always continued to encounter various difficulties in the pursuit of success on the road, his whole story is a struggle history.
