| As a result of science and technology, computer promotes the development of society and human civilization and becomes a rapid and effective way to better understand new concepts and new things. With the development of computer, a large number of English words has emerged and enriched the vocabulary of computer science. Therefore, it is necessary for us to recognize, understand and apply these abstract words, which will also help us catch the latest information in computer field.Conceptual Integration Theory was put forward by Gilles Fauconnier and Mark Turner in 1990 s. The theory explains the construction of meanings through blending mental space based on human beings' cognitive mechanism. The production of the computer English words reflects a series of human cognitive activities. The author attempts to take computer English words as corpus and analyze their meaning construction under the guidance of Conceptual Integration Theory based on human cognitive activities. On the basis of the previous studies, the formation of computer English words can be mainly classified into reconstructing and meaning shifting. Therefore, the author classifies the computer English words into two types: word formation and lexical meaning change according to their frequency in the data collection. The compounded, broadened and affixed computer English words are selected as the case study in the thesis. The author further applies the integration networks of the conceptual integration to analyze the meaning construction of the computer English words. After the analysis, the author concludes that the single-scope network, the double-scope network and the simple network can be used to explain the meaning construction of the computer English words, while the mirror network has not been found can be applied. The Conceptual Integration Theory shows convincing power in meaning construction of computer English words, which not only helps to recognize and grasp the complex computer English words but also expands the application fields of Conceptual Integration Theory. |
