The zaiyi(??)theory was an unique part of Confucian political culture in ancient China,especially the zaiyi theory of solar eclipse that symbolizes yin(?)invading yang(?),had a deep influence in ancient politics.On the other hand,the solar eclipse forecast technology in ancient Chinese astronomy was greatly flourishing,and this fact means severe challenge to the legitimacy of the zaiyi theory of solar eclipse,which has been noticed by philosophors in the early Han dynasty.However,the political practice concerning the zaiyi of solar eclipse had last for at least 2000 years until the late Qing dynasty.Has the contradiction received its efficientexplanations?The author selects the shiyue(????)solar eclipse event in the sixth year of King You of Zhou,study how scholars of different ages managed to demonstrate the shiyue zaiyi by using different sorts of thinking resources,and extends to the political effects of different explanations,in order to show this piece of history of Confucian zaiyi theory of solar eclipse.
