A Report On Translation Of "Roman Law In European History"(Chapter 2)

This is a translation report of the second chapter of Roman law in European History written by Peter Stein, professor of Civil Law in Cambridge University.Law is playing an increasingly significant role in this day and age, so we must know origin and history of law. Therefore, the translation of legal English articles is indispensable. Being objective and rigorous, legal articles are featured with long sentences and legal terminologies, and legal articles have their own characteristics in the choice of sentence structure and vocabulary. Therefore, we should select appropriate translation methods and skills to make the article accurate and clear during the process of translation. My translation of the book, as guided by” communication translation ”by Peter Newmark, carries on with a purpose.This report includes five parts: a brief description of the project, a short introduction of the translation process, the theoretical support of the translation, case study and solution and conclusion. By translating this article, the translator showed a lot of translation methods and translation skills(splitting-off, reconstruction and voices conversion from passive to active) during the translation process of this legal article. The translator realized that parallel books, relevant knowledge about the background of this book should be read and Internet resources should be used to ensure accuracy and objectivity of translation.
