A Report On E-C Translation Of Annual Statistical Supplement To The Social Security Bulletin,2015(Excerpt) Guided By Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory

With the background of globalization today,the growing exchange between Chinese and other countries plays a vital role in the field of economy and trade,culture,law and technology.And translation becomes more and more necessary for its exchange.This translation practice report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the excerpt from Annual Statistical Supplement to the Social Security Bulletin,2015.The content of this report is mainly the Old-Age,Survivors,and Disability Insurance program.The text type of the source text belongs to expressive text,whose language features are concise and accurate,aiming to convey accurately information.The author firstly analyzes the language features of the source text and difficult points of translation in this translation practice report.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory put forward by Peter Newmark,the author explores some difficult points based on some cases of the original text.And there are three difficulties in the translation process,including technical terms,complex sentences and charts and formats.The author proposes to employ semantic translation strategy and communicative translation strategy in the translation process,and aims to accurately convey information of the source text to ensure its authenticity and objectivity.Meanwhile,the author should consider readers’ feeling and ensures that readers can understand information of the source text.Therefore,the author concludes feasible translation methods,for example,free translation and literal translation are employed to translate technical terms;long and complex sentences are translated in three ways---splitting translation,reversing translation and embedding translation;the original charts and formats emerge are unchanged in my translation.Through the above analysis,the author draws the following conclusion: the author should obey the principle of simplicity,authenticity and objectivity in the translationof the official document text;it is very important to choose a proper translation methods in this report;the analysis of language features and difficult points of this text plays a vital role for translation quality;translator should have extensive professional knowledge.Finally,the author hopes that this paper can provide some help for other translators in this field as a reference to some extent.
