Interpreting Strategies From The Theory Of Adaptation

With the continuous advance of internationalization, China enjoys increasing prestige and cooperation with other countries. As a crucial means in international exchange and cooperation, interpreting is influencing many fields such as politics, economy and culture. Combined with pragmatics, psychology and psycholinguistics, studies on interpreting have taken on a trend of inter-disciplines and to a large extent, broadened the academic vision as well as enriched academic system.Based on the theory of adaptation, the author takes the Address at the Summer Davors in 2015 by Premier Li Keqiang as a case to analyze the interpreting strategies of the inaugural address by using case analysis method. According to the theory, language use is viewed as a process of continuous making of choices so as to achieve satisfaction for communicative needs. In order to meet these needs of communication, language users are making choices under the framework of structural objects and contextual correlates. In the thesis, firstly, the author introduces the background of the study, the purpose and meaning and the structure of the thesis. Secondly, the author reviews the documents of the theory of adaptation and the inaugural address. Thirdly, the author summarizes the influence factors of the interpreting of the inaugural address. Finally, the author analyzes the interpreting strategies under the theory of adaptation.By analyzing the chosen case, the author gets to a conclusion that the interpreting strategies under the theory of adaptation are achieved through structural objects of adaptability, contextual correlate of adaptability and finally realizes dynamics of adaptability. The author hopes to give the readers a better understanding of the theory of adaptation in the practice of its application. The author also aims to provide some insight into future studies.
