Shanxi Province Barefoot Doctors And Rural Medical Research(1965-1985)

The barefoot doctors, firstly appeared in 1960s, who are the product of rural cooperative medical care and elected by the general farmers. They are also trained by a short-term training for the first time, then repeat the training for many times. Besides, they master the basic knowledge of medical and health care. They are the primary rural medics who are at the bottom of the third medical and health care net adhere to the agricultural production. At the same time, they are the main implementer of rural cooperative medical care who are welcomed by the masses of the people and played an important role in the vast rural underserved area which is lack of doctors and medicines. Taking Shaanxi Province as an example, through the fieldwork of Hu Xian,Zhou Zhi,Chang An,Wei Nan and the first-hand archives in Shaanxi Archives, analyzing the situation of rural medical and health care from 1960s to 1980s of Shaanxi, the thesis explore the development of the barefoot doctors during that period, mainly highlight the selection, training, work, etc. Meanwhile, the thesis is also pay attention to the relationship among different groups and the effect of Shaanxi rural area, especially for the farmers to take medicine, agricultural production, the rural environment and health, endemic disease epidemic and Chinese traditional medicine. At last, concluded that how it will work for today's new rural cooperative medical care. The thesis is divided into five parts:The first part mainly about the birth and development of shaanxi barefoot doctors. Because of the lack of doctors and medicines in rural area and the government focus on the urban areas where there are fewer people, there are no health care for the people. After chairman MAO's idea, the "six. two six Matters" instructions make the barefoot doctors come to birth to encourage us focus on the rural medical and health care. So do Shaanxi province. The bare doctors come to birth in 1960, develop in 1970, extinct in 1980, effect a lot for the development of the rural health care in Shaanxi Province.The second part is divided into two sections, the first section mainly introduces the team construction of the barefoot doctor. Through the source of selection, the ideological and political education, technical training and salary of barefoot doctors to analysis the situation of Shanxi barefoot doctors. The second section is mainly explore the effect of the relationship between the barefoot doctors and commune doctor, the local brigade leader and the common people for the development of barefoot doctors.The third part is mainly introduce what kind of influence barefoot doctors make on Shanxi rural areas, which major include the farmers to take medicine, agricultural production, the rural environment and health, endemic and epidemic, etc. What's more,they have great influences on the development of traditional Chinese medicine and the practice of central government decrees in village as well, so that we can inspire for today's new rural cooperative medical care.
