Study Of Monosyllable Synonymous Annotation In Yang Jing's The Note Of Xunzi

Book annotation study is indispensable and basic to build the history of the Chinese language. Synonymous annotation is often used by exegesis interpreters because of its conciseness and clearness.The paper studies the monosyllable synonymous annotation in YangJing's the Note of Xunzi. Firstly, it defines theconnotation and denotation of the synonymous annotation. According to the definition, it finds out all the examples of the synonymous annotation in YangJing's the Note of Xunzi. Then, it studies the types of the examples, from the perspective of the sense relation between the explaining words and explained words.The synonymous annotation in the paper refers to the semantical annotation method which used a word containing the same sememe with the explained word in the synchronic level to explain. There are 565 examples of the synonymous annotation in YangJing's the Note of Xunzi. From the perspective of the sense relation between explaining words and explained words, these examples can be devided into four different types:the explaining words using their original meaning (it includes original meaning explaining original meaning?original meaning explaining derived meaning and original meaning explaining borrowed meaning), which accounts for 33.21% of all the examples; the explaining words using their derived meaning (it includes derived meaning explaining original meaning?derived meaning explaining derived meaning and derived meaning explaining borrowed meaning), which accounts for 63.77%; the explaining words using their borrowed meaning (it includes borrowed meaning explaining original meaning?borrowed meaning explaining derived meaning and borrowed meaning explaining borrowed meaning), which accounts for 1.42%; explaining the context meaning of the explained words(it includes specific meaning? grammaticalization meaning and transferred meaning), which accounts for 1.60%.The example of the explaining words using their derived meaning is the most of all, and it has the largest proportion.We think, it mainly because a word can derive many derived meanings during its development,which makes the probability of two words having the same derived meaning be higher than the probability of two words having the other kind of same meaning. In the case of the inappropriate examples in YangJing's the Note of Xunzi, the paper tries to analyse in postscript part, by the way, they are not included in the total number of the synonymous annotation.
