The specificity of movie industry makes it regular for some illustrious movies stamped with the sense of time, which has causal relationship with the social environment intensively. It needs to be observed in different social context. Inevitably, the relationship between movie and the society has involved with society, culture and economy. The Song at Midnight(1937) which derived from the American movie,The Phantom Of the Opera(1925)has been remade by the Chinese for three times with huge economic returns. It should draw public attention that the same story find acceptance among the audience in different times.Furthermore, although in different manifestation,"freedom"has always been the permanent expectation of human beings in all ages. The research will enlighten the contemporary movie making of China which directs at the four editions of "The Song at Midnight."and the expression of "freedom".
