The royal mausoleums of West Han Dynasty are the most representative cultural heritage resources in China. As an indivisible part of these resources, the last four mausoleums provide an significant material evidence for the researches in terms of the politics, economics, social ideology and the mausoleum system etc. In late West Han Dynasty, which has unparalleled value. However, compared with the rest of the royal mausoleums of the West Han, the last four mausoleums, which were built in the late and declining period, have drawn relatively less attention, moreover, the levels of conservation and researches are not sufficient as well.Nevertheless, with the rapid development of the Xixian New Area, the conflict between urban development and the conservation of the last four mausoleums is becoming gradually intense since the mausoleums were located at the core zone of the Xixian New Area. Increasingly irrational use, middle and major infrastructure construction took place within the heritage site or even on the site itself, those situations were all lead to a greater pressure faced by the conservation work for the last four mausoleums.This dissertation will start from the relevant literature and field investigation of the last four mausoleums, sort out the environment of the surrounding areas of the site and the current conservation conditions, analysis the main damaging factors for the sites. Based on those mentioned theoretical and methodological background, this dissertation will propose a plan to utilize the landscape improvement approach to modify the conditions of the environment of the sites, to eliminate the threats for the sites and to standardize the construction activities within the protected areas in the same time, furthermore, to achieve the aim to preserving the heritage site itself and the surrounding areas. Meanwhile, this dissertation will explore the possibilities to alleviate the conflict between heritage conservation and urban development, in order to make the last four mausoleums a better inheritance for the future generations, and to perform a significant role in the regional development.
