A Study Of English Cyber-Neologisms From The Perspective Of Conceptual Integration

Nowadays,with the development of Internet,a series of revolution has been brought into the world.It not only influences human's study,life and work,but also brings great impact on human's mind and language.The internet is a big group which has its special medium — internet,keyboard and screen,so netizens have their own language,namely cyber-language.Moreover,due to the high transmission speed,the internet has become the quickest place which creates,use and transmits neologisms.The emergence of cyber-neologism reflects social development.The cyberneologisms are the most vivid and variable words,and they are the most remarkable feature of Internet.Due to its conciseness and convenience,the cyber-neologisms are very popular with netizens.In the traditional researches,scholars mainly focus on the outer features of cyber-neologism,such as the source,usage and classification.Consequently,studies on the cognitive mechanism of the meaning of cyber-neologism are absent.In order to develop a relatively complete study on the English cyber-neologism,this paper will pay attention on both its formation and meaning construction.Recently,due to the strong explanatory power of conceptual integration theory,it is widely used by scholars on the analysis on word meaning.Considering those,this paper intends to study English cyber-neologism with the help of four networks in conceptual integration theory.The major methods in this paper are the qualitative and the quantitative ones.In order to enhance the reliability and validity of the final results,the author chooses298 language tips from two authorized websites: Chinadaily and Sohu.After studying,the results show that there are mainly five formation ways of English cyber-neologism,which are compounding,blending,abbreviation,affixation,and semantic extension.This confirms the feature of being motivated of English neologisms.Moreover,by case studies under CIT,the paper shows the dynamic construction process of the meaning of English cyber-neologisms.In this way,it makes the abstract cognition process become more concrete.Besides,by discussion,the paper concludes some features of English cyber-neologisms,such as concise,vivid,iconic,neglecting the capitalization and metaphorization.With the further development of internet and the wide usage of English,the specialty of cyber-neologisms will be more prominent and studies on English cyber-neologism will have more space.Therefore,studies on English cyber-neologism is very important,on one hand it can promote human's understanding on it and improve the cyber-communication,on the other hand,it is beneficial for English teaching.So this paper tries to further study English cyber-neologism from the perspective of conceptual integration and explores the secrets behind it.
